OntheNet - Now Offering 6Mbps/900Kbps ADSL Speeds

Monday, 6 September 2004

GOLD COAST COMPANY LAUNCHES FASTEST RESIDENTIAL ADSL SPEEDS IN QUEENSLAND

LEADING Gold Coast Internet solutions provider, OntheNet, is set to announce the availability of Queensland's fastest ADSL services for both residential and business customers.

OntheNet will be the first company to offer such high ADSL speeds - 6Mbps/900Kbps - to residential customers in Queensland.

Managing Director, Tak Woo, and Chair of Gold Coast City's Economic and Cultural Development Committee, Councillor Jan Grew, will make the announcement at the Gold Coast City Council's 2004 Broadband Expo at Broadbeach's Grand Mercure Hotel on Tuesday morning.

" These speeds are up to four times faster than those offered by other providers and an amazing twenty four times faster than entry-level broadband," Mr Woo said.

" They have been made possible by OntheNet installing our own Broadband infrastructure into Gold Coast exchanges earlier this year," he said.

Over 120,000 Gold Coast residents and businesses now have access to the higher ADSL broadband speeds, with the actual speed depending on the specific customer line quality and distance.

Suburbs extending Labrador to Broadbeach and west to Bundall are included in the current coverage area and serve about one third of the Gold Coast.

Other areas currently in the planning phases, lift coverage to over half of the city.

Mr Woo said the service is good news for residential consumers and businesses:

  • " These new OntheNet speeds showcase the potential of ADSL infrastructure without the need for expensive upgrades to optical fibre," Mr Woo said.
  • " As Broadband becomes a regular part of the home and workplace customers are needing faster speeds to get their work and chores done. This is particularly true as digital pictures and video become integral to our information and communication needs," he said.
